Kisan Mobile Advisory Services (KMAS):

Farmers need the right information in right time to the right person at right place for increasing agricultural production. The kisan mobile Advisory Service (KVK-KMAS) a unique programme of information delivery for advising the farmers with need based timely information along with objective of such service is to reach out a larger section of farming community. This programme is initiated to transfer technologies among the farming community. Need based, weather based and marketing based technologies and service information are being sent to the farming community. The message are delivered to farming community of entire district covered with fallowing topics related with Agriculture and Animal Husbandry on the basis of farmers need viz. Plant protection measures fallowed by Integrated nutrient management, Production technology of various crops were covered (like Preparation of Land, Soil Testing, Selection of HYV) Irrigation, Balance use of Fertilizer and lastly Animal husbandry aspect. Apart from agri-information future programmes of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and related information are also sent to the farmers through this service. The farmers are largely benefitted by this programme as they do not go to the input supplier for technical information.


Since 2010, we have been providing message services to mobile numbers of the farmers covering agriculture and allied subjects. Till now more than 4000 messages have been delivered for the farmers within the district through different web services and SMS Portal for farmers, an initiative of Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. SMS portal for farmers in Farmers' Web Portal (www.farmer.gov.in) - aims to serve farmers and other stake-holders through their mobile phones in an integrated and efficient manner. It has been helping in spreading technical advice to farmers by an officer of the State Agriculture or Allied Departments efficiently.

Farmers are advised to drain out the excess water from low lying paddy field at dough stage for proper maturity.

Rapeseed and Mustard: Thining and weeding done after 15-20 days after sowing. For enhancing yield through pollination, place 5 honey bee colonies/ha in the field after flowering.

Potato: Depending upon the soil moisture status and availability of irrigation facility, farmers are advised to follow the irrigation schedule as follows - 1st Irrigation : 25-30 DAS, 2nd Irrigation : 60 DAS, 3rd Irrigation : 80 DAS

The soil should be prepared by horizontal and vertical tractor ploughing for the Rabi crops like mustard, potato, onion etc.

In brinjal farmers may apply Decis 2.8 EC@1ml/lit. to control the fruit and shoot borer.

Boro paddy: Sowing the seeds of recommended varieties of Boro paddy like Mahsuri, IR-50, Bishnuprasad, Jyotiprasad, Kanaklata and Dinanath in the nursery bed should be completed within December

Apply chemicals like Potash @ 4-5 mg/lit of water, Sukrena WS @ 1 lit per bigha of water and Lime in required doses to protect the fish population against various bacterial diseases prevalent in winter season

Potato: Earthening up of potatoes is to be done at 25 days after planting (stolon formation stage) just before first irrigation.

Varieties like M-27, TS-36 may be sown after harvesting of Sali rice up to end of November. Thinning and weeding should be done after 15-20 days after sowing. If saw fly attack is observed, spray Chlorpyriphos 20 EC or Dimethoate 30 EC @ 2 ml/lit of water

Domestic live stocks like cattle, goat and pigs should be vaccinated against BQ, HS, Foot and mouth disease as well as anthrax disease.

Poultry birds should be regularly observed and fed with antibiotics and vitamins after consulting veterinary doctors.

The recommended dose of different fertilizers for potato cultivating under rainfed condition are urea-19 Kg, SSP- 45 Kg and MOP-12 Kg per bigha which should be applied in furrows as basal application and be covered with a thin layer of soil so that the tuber do not come into contact with direct fertilizes. For irrigated conditions, the dose is Urea-19 Kg, SSP- 90 Kg and MOP-24 Kg per bigha.

Seed treatment should be done with captan or thiram 50 WP @3g/kg before sowing the seeds of Cauliflower. 80g seed is required for cultivating 1 bigha of land.

Sowing of Brinjal seeds@10gm/m2 for long varieties (like Cluster, Barbengena, JC-1, Kuchia, Pusa Kranti, Pusa Purple Long) or round varieties (like Pusa Purple Round, Pusa Vairab, JC-2, BWR-12) can be sown as winter crop. 80-90g seed is required for cultivating 1 bigha of land.

Farmers fromm flood affected areas are advised to select cultivars like Jalashree, Jalkuwari, Plaban etc. which remain alive under water upto 15 days
