Mandate, Aims and
Objectives of the Centre:
Mandate:
- Technology Assessment and Demonstration for its Application and Capacity
Development
- On-farm testing to assess the location specificity of agricultural
technologies under various farming systems.
- Frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of technologies
on the farmers’ fields.
- Capacity development of farmers and extension personnel to update their
knowledge and skills on modern agricultural technologies.
- To work as Knowledge and Resource Centre of agricultural technologies for
supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector in improving
the agricultural economy of the district.
- Provide farm advisories using ICT and other media means on varied subjects
of interest to farmers
- In addition, production of quality technological products (seeds, planting
material, bio-agent, livestock) and make it available to farmers
- Organize front line activities
- Identify and document selected farm innovations and converge with ongoing
schemes and programs within the mandate of KVK

profitability and sustainability of agriculture
Mission:
Farmer-centric growth in agriculture and allied sectors through application
of appropriate technologies in specific agro-ecosystem perspective
Thrust areas of ongoing research and extension activities:
1. Increasing production and productivity of rain-fed rice (quality seed)
2. Increasing production and productivity of pulses and oilseeds
3. Emphasis on of horticultural crops
4. Enhancing production, productivity and quality tea mainly of the small
tea growers
5. Emphasis on Integrated nutrient, disease and pest management for
sustainable agriculture
6. Enhancing production and productivity of milk, egg, meat, fish and
sericulture enterprise
7. Entrepreneurship development by enhancing skill and motivation of rural
unemployed youth for taking up various agro based vocations
8. Introduction of technology for reducing drudgery of farm women
Education/Awareness, vocational and other training programmes: Number of
programmes conducted- for extension functionaries, rural youth, progressive
farmers, farm women etc.; number of invited lectures delivered as resource
person in trainings etc. organized by external agencies (since 2009)

Laboratory Instruments available are Horizontal Laminar air flow, Rotary
shaker, Portable pH meter, Digital balance (5kg),
BOD incubator, Vertical autoclave, Hot air oven ( 1 no of each item)

Research Projects:
1. Technology Demonstration Component (TDC) of NICRA (National Initiatives
on Climate Resilient Agriculture) – Continuation from 2011-12 till date.
2. Production of biopesticides and biofertilizers under DBT-funded AAU
satellite centre – Continuation from 2012-13.
3. Certified seed production of winter rice under technology Showcasing Programme.

1. Farmers Participatory Action Research Programme (FPARP-II) – Soil
Moisture Conservation using mulching.
2. Foundation seed production of black gram (IPU-94-1)
Future strategies and role of the KVK for development of agriculture in the
state:
Short term Plan: Science and technology-led growth leading to enhanced
productivity, profitability and sustainability of agriculture.
Long term Plan: Farmer-centric growth in agriculture and allied sectors
through application of time driven appropriate technologies in specific
agro-ecosystem perspective.
